Congratulations on being chosen to attend PGSIS! As you already know, this makes you pretty special. The thing you may not know, however, is that if you let it, this summer can change your life.

PGSIS is unlike any other governor's school. It is probably the most difficult, certainly one of the most selective. You will not sleep much. You will not have a lot of free time. Fun will be mandatory. There are boundaries and rules. But within the classrooms, there are no boundaries. Your mind will go farther than you ever thought it could. In the middle of summer in Pittsburgh, PA in a University of Pittsburgh classroom, you will be learning about the farthest reaches of the world. You'll dream and make plans for your future; many of which would be out of reach for the friends you have at home. After PGSIS, you will be dying to leave for college. You'll leave in tears, leaving behind people you will know for years to come.

Best of luck. Study hard, make as many friends as possible. Meet everyone at least twice. Don't eat too many times at Chick-fil-a. Most of all, don't waste a single moment - you can never go back.

(If you have any questions, please feel free to comment here or im me at skippinggrace. I  am an alumna from the class of '03, and if I can't answer a question, I probably know someone who can. FYI, I was an Ethnic Warfare concentration and took Japanese. I was on ICONS Team China (we came in 2nd in the ICONS Olympics!) I went to Gannon U in Erie last year for Foreign Languages and International Studies but will be a Linguistics major at Pitt starting this fall.)

Nice to meet you! Do you still keep in touch with your friends from PGSIS 2003?

Of course! Actually, livejournal is amazing - I have six or seven PGSISers on my LJ, it's been amazing to keep in touch with their lives and see what they've been up to. I ended up dating a guy for about six months whom I met at gov school, and though it didn't last long, we're still amazing friends. When I go to Pitt this upcoming year, I expect to grow even closer to two amazing girls I haven't seen in a while. I fell out of touch with a few people, but I still think about them all the time!

One thing is for sure, though - after you leave, you can never look at the Cathedral of Learning again without thinking PGSIS!
